John Hetherington

As I have gone door to door I've had the opportunity to ask some of you what issue is most important to you? Senior care, SOGI and tariffs were a few. I extend that question out to all to contact me via email and social media to start and let me know what concerns to address.

Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
I bring depth of experience and fresh perspective as a world travelled multi-disciplinary artist, former youth & child care worker, international volunteer with youth and the homeless as well as a member of the Canadian Association of Journalists while living in Ottawa-Gatineau.

My father was born in Canada and served in the Merchant Marine, his father served in the Navy in World War II. My mother was a ships steward and immigrated from British Guyana. Together my parents made a home on Vancouver's North Shore. My first of many journeys off the continent was to South Africa to volunteer and work with inter-racial youth groups during the death throes of Apartheid. Here I witnessed and took part in seeing youth from disparate backgrounds and cultures breaking down barriers and building bridges of understanding and love.

Locals near downtown Johannesburg said they were surprised by how quickly I connected with and helped local homeless youth displaced by violence eventually get off the street.

I am a compassionate conservative who can bring a well spring of creative ideas and will encourage all of government working together and together with social agencies and businesses to help better the lives of all Canadians first. Then we can better reach out to and help the rest of the world from a healthier place.

Integrity, responsibility, transparency and accountability in government starting with all our own personal relationships at home is key to better families and a better country.

It's a tough road ahead but together we can make a positive change for our children.

Reason for running

When a candidate stepped down after the election was called, I stepped up to offer another choice to make a positive difference in our country. In order to earn your trust as your Member of Parliament, I will work twice as hard and donate half my salary back the community*.

*After the first year as your public servant in Ottawa I will re-evaluate the workload vs the compensation and with your input decide from there. I have been told that "if the job is done right it (the full salary) won't seem enough." I have some ideas of what to do with the donation money and will work together with others in the community to help women, children and senior's in need.

I am a compassionate conservative who believes in people before profit.

I want to see government work together to help make all our lives a little lighter and paychecks more prosperous. And wouldn't it be a positive change if Question Period became, Question & Answer Period?

I think we all can agree with the PPC's four founding principles of Freedom, Responsibility, Fairness and Respect.
